Type 2 diabetes is a chronic condition caused by poor insulin production as the body struggles to produce enough of this bio-hormone and maintain its blood levels, and when this essential hormone is deprived, the level of glucose in the blood can reach dangerous levels. .

A study published in current developments in Nutrition looked at the effects of one serving of 8 ounces of pomegranate juice on blood sugar levels.

 

The researchers recruited 21 healthy, normal-weight individuals, randomly selected to drink water, pomegranate juice and a water-based drink to match the sugar content of pomegranate juice.

 

While drinking water did not change the blood sugar of any participant, pomegranate juice showed promising results. Those who suffered from low insulin in the blood during fasting suffered a significant drop in blood sugar within 15 minutes.

 

The study concluded that their findings suggest that ingredients in pomegranate juice are likely to regulate glucose metabolism in humans.

 

Pomegranates contain a high percentage of anthocyanins, dyes that give the juice its distinctive color, and these aesthetic materials are rich in antioxidants.

 

One theory says that antioxidants can be associated with sugar and prevent a significant impact on your insulin levels.

 

While the mechanisms behind pomegranate juice and blood sugar levels are not entirely clear, there is more research to support their effect.

 

A study published in Nutrition Research found that juice can lower blood sugar levels during fasting and reduce insulin resistance in people with type 2 diabetes.

 

Similar to previous research, these findings emerged very quickly, just three hours after enjoying a fruit drink.
